Twitter is now letting letting users react to tweets with emoji characters rather than using the heart / like, rolled out at the start of November. Twitter is the latest social network to look into giving more options to users in how they interact with other’s content.

Recently, Facebook was also expanding the like button to include emoji. However, it seems like Twitter may offer more emoji options than Facebook, which is currently only testing six emoji reactions from anger to sadness, love, laughter, happiness or the shocked face.

According to the Guardian, the feature was detected by a user who had access to developer-only updates in the iOS app.

By offering a range of emoji instead of the single heart icon, Twitter could re-engage long-term users of the social network. On the other hand, new emoji add additional complexity to the once-simple 140-character Twitter experience.
